Not 20 minutes ago I was watching an old-ish episode of The Simpsons (yes I still occassionaly watch cartoons. Deal with it) where the town falls under prohibition laws. At the end of the episode, conflict is resolved, characters remain the same. Though one thing was a little different. Normally this episode ends with Homer Simpson giving a short speech:
"Here's to alcohol. The cause of, and solution to, all of life's problems."
However, someone in the great almighty powers of government censorship decided that Homer's choice of words was particularly blase, and unacceptable for little kiddies. So they cut it. The last 10 seconds of the episode gone. I wouldn't have noticed it if the cut to credits was so unnatural.
What the Fuck.
Seriously, it is not going to damage a child hearing a cartoon advocate drinking. Censorship strikes again, and while I'm not all for swearing, and incredible violence on television during the kid's afternoon hours, there is a line to censorship, and I believe the Australian Communications and Media Authority stepped WAY over the line on this one. The show is already rated PG, as in Parental Guidance. Why don't parent's stop expecting the government to do their work, and start RAISING THEIR CHILDREN?! When little Timmy asks "Daddy, is alcohol really the cause of, and solution to, all of life's problems?" Daddy should say "No, Timmy, alcohol is bad for you. It can make you feel really sick.". Feel free to use that line, incompetent parents, I've no use for it. I'm angry, and barely able to string sentences together, and I already did a better job of raising your children than at least 40% of all parents out there. I'm being generous, because even just 40% is an alarming amount of dumbass children. Though it's probably much more.
Hmm, maybe not so short afte-
Here's a social issue which I believe will out strip all we know of today..
ReplyDeleteKids / Adults who can't socialize in real life as they are dependant on their cyber life where your totally under control as long as the broadband pumping in..
I would like to see for one month zero internet, and just watch the havoc develop, I believe it would cause riots and chaos like this world have never seen..best of all there would be no safe house of internet to land your thoughts on, for the first time you would need to find a real world solution.
Controlling drinking, smoking and drugs with younger folk is easy as they exist in the real world, controlling online addiction and the anti social habits which can form in this environment are difficult to control, and easily hidden by the split persona many have these days..The online rage is similar to car rage, people feel protected in their little secret online environment, people who commit car rage feel protected as they are in a car, and always feel they can flee an incident, in both cases its the thought you can get away with anything which drives the maniac response.
There is the feeble and fail real world you, and the all mighty can do achieve anything, buy anything online you, don't deny it.
Ask any teen or 20 something these days can you survive without all the connections todays life brings with it, I bet all will say they feel lost without their little cyber world where it's to escape the real world issues, now where's the censorship in this online realm...zero.
In 10 years time will we be better off with all this amazing cyber life activity, to be honest get ready to go backwards big time.
Sure they removed it for that reason? don't forget most television shows now have 10 seconds before the ad break cut(pisses me off). I always thought it was so they could fit that one more annoying ad in just to make enough money.
